Description:

Pair of 12AY7 General Electric Made in USA, authentic American production from GE's golden era, made with the sought-after gray ribbed plates and halo getter. The 60-22 code dates the manufacturing to the 22nd week of 1960, making this pair particularly interesting for vintage restorations, boutique amplifiers, and tube systems where an authentic vintage American footprint is desired.

The 12AY7 offers lower gain compared to the 12AX7 and is highly appreciated for the greater progressivity, good dynamics, and control it can provide to preamplification stages. It represents a particularly interesting choice for vintage-style guitar amplifiers, driver stages, buffers, and hi-fi equipment designed for this tube type.

The tubes have been carefully selected on an Amplitrex AT-1000 and subjected to 48 hours of burn-in, which they passed without instability. Tube 1 shows average values of Gm 1550 µmhos and Ia 2.7 mA, while Tube 2 averages Gm 1400 µmhos and Ia 2.25 mA. Emission was found to be strong, steady, and stable, with no gas, shorts, or fluctuations.

The pair has been matched for electrical characteristics and operating behavior. The first tube also offers excellent internal alignment, while the second maintains consistent values between sections. It is a selection particularly indicated for V2, V3, V4, driver stages, and less sensitive positions, where it can fully express the qualities of vintage GE production.

Microphonics are low. While the noise floor is compatible with numerous audio applications, it does not make this pair the preferred choice for V1 or higher-gain inputs: its ideal use is in subsequent stages, where it offers solid and reliable performance.

In terms of sound, these General Electrics are generally appreciated for a dynamic, balanced, and well-defined output, with controlled bass, present and natural mids, and clean high frequencies. In guitar amplifiers, they can contribute to a more manageable and progressive response, with good articulation and greater gain control.

These are tested and fully functional vintage tubes, with legible labels, very good aesthetic condition, and only slight signs of aging. Supplied in custom Vacuum Tubes Treasures boxes.
