AMPLITREX Tested – VERY STRONG – Low Noise & Microphonics – Vintage American General Electric Production

Test Results:

Tube tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -2V
  • 100% Average: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.2 mA
  • Test Result: VERY STRONG

Tube:

  • Section 1: Gm = 1700 ; Ia = 1.2 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1800 ; Ia = 1.3 mA
Additional Tests Performed:
  • Burn-in / Stability Test: 48h – OK
  • Microphonics: Low. Tested and suitable for use in hi-fi and guitar amplifiers, including in V1.
  • Balance: Very good. The sections are consistent and well-matched, making the tube suitable for use as a phase inverter in hi-fi and instrument applications.
  • Emission Quality: Excellent – Very strong and stable emission, without fluctuations.
  • Short Circuits and GAS: None.

Description

Selected specimen NOS 12AX7 / ECC83 General Electric, produced in the United States in July 1975, an authentic example of GE American thermionic production. The tube features the characteristic Short Gray Plates with Halo Getter construction, accompanied by the well-preserved original General Electric screen printing. A configuration appreciated by audiophiles and musicians seeking original American vintage tubes, with documented electrical characteristics and the typical construction quality of GE production.

The measurements performed with the Amplitrex AT-1000 highlight particularly solid performance. The transconductance of the two sections reaches 1700 and 1800 µmhos, with an average of 1750 µmhos, approximately 9% above the nominal reference of 1600. The anode currents are 1.2 and 1.3 mA respectively, with an average of 1.25 mA, also above the reference of 1.2 mA. These results confirm a very strong emission and very good internal balance, with consistent electrical characteristics between the two sections.

The tube passed 48 hours of burn-in and stability testing, maintaining a strong and constant emission, without fluctuations, short circuits, or the presence of gas. The tests also confirmed low noise and microphonics, making the specimen suitable even for the most sensitive amplification stages, including the V1 position in guitar amplifiers, where silence is particularly important.

The 12AX7 / ECC83 General Electric tubes find application in hi-fi preamplifiers, compatible phono stages, and guitar amplifiers, both in the input stages and as drivers or phase inverters. GE American production is traditionally appreciated for a musical presentation generally described as open, dynamic, and well-defined, with good articulation, clarity, and balanced reproduction, characteristics sought after in both hi-fi listening and instrument amplification.

The value of this specimen lies in the authenticity of the 1975 General Electric production, identified by the original KJ – 188 code, its NOS condition, and electrical performance exceeding the nominal references. The well-preserved screen printing, very good cosmetic condition, and low-microphonics selection complete a particularly interesting vintage tube. An authentic American GE 12AX7 / ECC83, carefully tested and selected, intended for enthusiasts who desire historic construction quality, verified stability, and documented electrical characteristics.

Sales Terms & Product Safety

Each vacuum tube is carefully selected, tested, and verified in our laboratory before shipment. Where stated in the listing, test results, matching data, and declared characteristics refer to measurements performed using the specified test equipment and operating conditions.

Sound descriptions are provided for guidance only and reflect the characteristics generally associated with that particular tube type. Personal sound preferences, tube rolling, or perceived differences between audio systems do not constitute a product defect.

Before installation, please verify the tube’s electrical and mechanical compatibility with your equipment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

New production and NOS tubes are shipped with a tamper-evident security seal and internal technical documentation to ensure traceability of the product’s condition at the time of shipment.

Product Safety (GPSR)

Vacuum tubes are electronic components intended exclusively for use in compatible equipment and must be installed in accordance with the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

Due to their historical or vintage nature, certain technical specifications may be based on original datasheets or equivalent technical documentation when documentation from the specific manufacturer is unavailable.

Use only with suitable equipment. Keep out of reach of children.
