AMPLITREX Tested – Matched Pair – Low Noise & Microphonics – Vintage TELEFUNKEN Production

Test Results

Tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester

Voltage Test: Va = 150V, Vg = -1.2V
Average 100%:
Gm = 7.00 ; Ia = 10.0 mA
TEST RESULT:
VERY STRONG

Tube 1:

  • Section 1: Gm = 9.70 ; Ia = 11.6 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 10.90 ; Ia = 13.9 mA

Tube 2:

  • Section 1: Gm = 10.70 ; Ia = 14.4 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 10.30 ; Ia = 13.6 mA

Additional Tests performed:
  • Burn-in / Stability Test: 48h – OK
  • Microphonics: Low. Tested and compliant for use in hi-fi equipment and guitar amplifiers, even in the most sensitive audio stages.
  • Balance: Good. The sections show consistent balance, fully compatible for use in hi-fi and musical amplifiers, in all applications where absolute symmetry between sections is not required.
  • Emission Quality: Excellent – Very strong and stable emission, without fluctuations.
  • Short Circuits and GAS: Absent.

Description:

Prestigious NOS / NIB pair of 5965 – E180CC Telefunken, authentic German production from the Ulm factory, immediately recognizable by the characteristic diamond embossed in the glass between the pins. The two tubes come from different Telefunken batches, dated September 6, 1965 and August 1, 1967, but share the same construction and have been selected together for their excellent electrical performance.

Tests performed with Amplitrex AT-1000 show values significantly higher than the nominal reference of 7.00 mA/V. The four sections actually measure between 9.70 and 10.90 mA/V, confirming an exceptionally vigorous emission. The transconductance averages of the two tubes are particularly close: 10.30 and 10.50 mA/V, with a difference of less than 2%, a characteristic that makes the pair optimally matched under the main parameter.

Anode currents, between 11.6 and 14.4 mA, also confirm energetic and steady operation. Overall balance is good, even if it does not represent an absolute symmetry selection between all sections. The 48-hour burn-in verified the stability of the parameters, without fluctuations, short circuits, or the presence of gas.

The low microphonics make these Telefunkens suitable for preamplifiers, drivers, buffers, professional equipment, and measuring instruments designed for 5965 or E180CC, even in the most sensitive audio stages. The 5965/E180CC has specific operating characteristics and must be used exclusively in circuits compatible with or expressly designed for this type of tube.

In terms of sound, the Telefunken Ulm production is appreciated for a transparent, precise, and authoritative reproduction, with a clean midrange, firm and articulated low frequencies, and extended highs without harshness. The remarkable transconductance of this pair contributes to a ready and dynamic response, while the coherence between the two specimens promotes image stability and uniformity between channels.

A high-level proposal for those looking for an authentic Telefunken NOS/NIB pair, complete with their boxes, original bottom diamond, documented Ulm origin, low microphonics, and electrical values significantly above average: two carefully tested, matched, and ready-to-use German 5965/E180CC tubes.
