Ultra Low Noise & Microphonics – “Gammatron” Series - Balanced Sections

Test Results:

Tube tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -8.5V
  • Average 100%: Gm = 2200 ; Ia = 10.5 mA
  • Test Result: STRONG

Tube :

  • Section 1: Gm = 1800 ; Ia = 8.4 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1800 ; Ia = 8.6 mA
Additional Tests Performed:
  • Microphonics: Very Low. Tested and suitable for hi-fi use, including phono stages and guitar amplifiers, even in V1.
  • Balance: Both sections show consistent and well-aligned values, making the tube ideal as a phase inverter in both hi-fi and instrumental applications.

Description:

Prized 12AU7WA / E82CC / 6189 Heinz & Kauffman, authentic American production from the historical “Gammatron” series, characterized by robust Triple Mica, Black Plates, and Square Getter construction. A particularly interesting professional version of the 12AU7 family for those seeking a selected vintage USA tube that is quiet and boasts excellent balance between its two sections.

The Triple Mica construction adds an additional element of mechanical rigidity to the internal structure and, along with the Black Plates, indicates a production of remarkable quality, generally traceable to the late 1950s / early 1960s.

The tube has been accurately tested using the Amplitrex AT-1000 Tube Tester, achieving a STRONG classification. Both sections measured exactly Gm 1800, with anode currents of 8.4 and 8.6 mA: particularly consistent values that confirm an excellent balance of the two triodes. The emission is strong and stable, with no shorts, gas, or detected anomalies.

This specimen has also been selected for Ultra Low Noise & Microphonics, a particularly valuable characteristic for sensitive audio applications. The excellent balance between the sections also makes it suitable as a phase inverter, as well as for input stages, V1, preamplifiers, and compatible phono stages.

From a sonic perspective, this American construction offers a full-bodied, dynamic, and well-defined presentation, with natural and present mids, solid and controlled low frequencies, and a clean and detailed high range. The high silence and excellent consistency of the sections contribute to stable and focused reproduction, particularly interesting in high-level hi-fi systems.

Recommended for hi-fi preamplifiers, compatible phono stages, integrated amplifiers, line stages, DACs and tube buffers, phase inverters, and guitar amplifiers designed for 12AU7WA / E82CC / 6189 and compatible equivalents.

The tube is Vintage, tested, and perfectly functional. Aesthetic conditions are excellent, with well-preserved lettering and minimal signs of age. It is supplied in our custom box for optimal protection.
