Additional Tests Performed

  • Burn-in / Stability Test: 48h – OK
  • Microphonics: Standard. Tested and suitable for use in hi-fi equipment and guitar amplifiers. Recommended for V2, V3, and V4 positions, as drivers or in less critical stages. For V1 and for high-gain positions particularly sensitive to microphonics, we recommend a tube with low microphonics selection.
  • Balance: The sections are consistent and well-aligned, making the tubes also suitable for use as phase inverters in hi-fi and instrumental applications.
  • Emission Quality: Excellent – very strong and stable emission, without fluctuations.
  • Shorts and GAS: Absent.

Description

Matched quad of 12AX7 / ECC83 NOS Baldwin by Sylvania, Made in USA, 1961 production, selected for compatible hi-fi and musical applications where channel consistency, good operational stability, and authentic vintage American sound character are required.

Baldwin-branded tubes were intended for high-end electronic organs of the era, where reliability, long lifespan, and operational uniformity were fundamental requirements. In this case, production is attributable to Sylvania Made in USA, featuring Gray Plates and Halo Getter construction, a configuration appreciated for its tonal balance, openness, and natural musicality.

The tubes are in NOS – New Old Stock condition, with well-preserved internal structure, very strong electrical values, and clearly legible lettering. See photos for aesthetic details.

The quad has been carefully tested and selected using an Amplitrex AT-1000 Tube Tester as a Matched Quad, with a VERY STRONG result on all tubes. The microphonics level is Standard: the tubes are tested and suitable for use in hi-fi equipment and guitar amplifiers, particularly recommended for V2, V3, and V4 positions, as drivers or in less critical stages. For V1 and for high-gain positions particularly sensitive to microphonics, we recommend a specific Low Noise & Microphonics selection instead.

Sonically, they offer a balanced, open, and engaging performance, with controlled bass, natural and rich mids, clean and detailed but not aggressive highs. The soundstage is orderly and stable, with good channel coherence and the typical musical character of early 1960s American Sylvania production.

Suitable for tube preamplifiers, hi-fi integrated amplifiers, driver stages, tube DACs, buffers, line stages, vintage restorations, and instrument amplifiers compatible with 12AX7 / ECC83.

A truly selected, tested, and matched NOS Sylvania/Baldwin quad from Vacuum Tubes Treasures, ideal for those seeking four strong, musical, and consistent American 12AX7 / ECC83 tubes, with the reliability and charm of vintage USA production.
