5Y4G HYTRON Black Plates Square Getter Rectifier Tube Made in USA 1951

Description:

The 5Y4G HYTRON , produced in 1951 in the United States and characterized by black plates , square getter and robust ST bottle structure, is a directly heated rectifier designed for low power and low consumption audio applications, electrically compatible with the 5Y3G (but with different pinout). HYTRON, a historic American company specialized in high quality military and civilian valves, stands out in this creation for its construction precision, operational silence and relaxed musicality .

It is particularly suitable for use in tube preamplifiers , small single-ended amplifiers or restored vintage radios , where a stable output voltage , a gradual start and a transparent but not analytical sound reproduction are desired.

Bass : smooth and well integrated. The low range is rounded and controlled , without exuberance but never weak. Perfect in systems where a harmonious and musical bass is preferred rather than impactful.

Mids : Warm and natural. The mids are the strong point of this tube: full central voice, rich harmonics and delicately rendered acoustic instruments . The timbre is organic and coherent , without excess.

Highs : soft and refined. The high range develops with attenuated brilliance , maintaining air and detail but without ever being aggressive or dry. Excellent for prolonged listening in controlled environments.

Dynamics : smooth and gradual. Transient behavior is soft , with a fluid and natural response , ideal in applications where musicality and harmonic progression are required, rather than a strong attack.

Soundstage : intimate and well structured. The stereo image is focused , with a credible depth and a good separation of the sound planes . It does not tend to artificially widen the scene, but favors immersive and centered listening .

🎧 Use in Headphone Amplifiers and Driver Stages Hi-Fi
Thanks to its low noise emission , smooth and stable voltage and quality mechanical construction, this 5Y4G HYTRON proves to be perfect for powering DACs, preamplifiers and tube driver stages . It pairs successfully with high-efficiency reference headphones such as the Audio-Technica ADX5000 , ZMF Auteur or Sennheiser HD580 , where it enhances transparency and naturalness .

🎸 Use in Guitar and Bass Amplifiers
Although not very widespread in the guitar field, it is used in low-wattage combos or handcrafted amps with soft power supplies , where it delivers a compressive, soft and musical sound, with an excellent response to the touch and a progressive saturation with an authentically vintage flavour.

🎯 Note for audiophiles and technicians
A balanced and quiet rectifier, ideal for high-end restorations , custom applications or for those who want a non-fatiguing audiophile voice . The 1951 HYTRON version, with black plates and a square getter , represents a solid and refined choice for low-power systems where the quality of the rectification directly influences the overall musical character.

Sound descriptions are provided for guidance only and reflect the characteristics generally associated with that particular tube type. Personal sound preferences, tube rolling, or perceived differences between audio systems do not constitute a product defect.

Before installation, please verify the tube’s electrical and mechanical compatibility with your equipment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

New production and NOS tubes are shipped with a tamper-evident security seal and internal technical documentation to ensure traceability of the product’s condition at the time of shipment.

Product Safety (GPSR)

Vacuum tubes are electronic components intended exclusively for use in compatible equipment and must be installed in accordance with the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

Due to their historical or vintage nature, certain technical specifications may be based on original datasheets or equivalent technical documentation when documentation from the specific manufacturer is unavailable.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE

Please understand that the writing on the glass of vintage valves has become very delicate over the years and comes off easily. You must handle them with extreme care to avoid this. Wear and damage to the writing on the valves reduces their market value and causes damage. Please exercise extreme caution.
