5Y3GT ( 5Z2P ) RCA NOS Black Plates Square Getter Tube Rectifier Made in USA '58

Description:

The RCA 5Y3GT , in this 1958 version with black plates and square getter , represents one of the most reliable and musically transparent interpretations of the classic American direct-heated rectifier. The GT (glass tubular) format offers a compact yet robust structure, ideal for low-power audio applications, such as single-ended amplifiers , tube preamplifiers or restored hi-fi radios .

RCA, with its unmistakable tonal signature, provides in this tube a perfect balance between operating silence, dynamic coherence and musical warmth , making it particularly suitable for contexts in which the naturalness of the signal takes priority over pure power.

Bass : soft and harmonious. The low range is rounded and controlled , without exuberance or rigidity. Not particularly deep, but musical and well integrated , it contributes to a warm and stable sound base.

Mids : Natural and intimate. The mid frequencies are balanced and clean , with a coherent and unemphasized rendering. Voices and acoustic instruments are credible and centered , with a realism without excess.

Highs : Silky and never fatiguing. The high range is sweet, slightly attenuated , with a controlled brightness that favors relaxed listening. The detail is there, but it is never pushed to the foreground.

Dynamics : progressive and musical. The response to transients is smooth but coherent , without obvious stuttering or compression. Ideal for systems where expressive fluidity is more valuable than extreme reactivity.

Soundstage : compact but credible. The stereo image is cohesive, with sufficient depth and stable positioning , without artifice. The scene develops naturally and proportionately , perfect for controlled home environments.

🎧 Use in Hi-Fi Amplifiers and Low Power Driver Stages
Perfect for tube DACs , vintage preamps , 2–8 watt single-ended amplifiers , this RCA 5Y3GT offers stable voltage, smooth start-up and a classic, relaxed sound signature. A great choice for systems that focus on refinement, silence and extended listening , even with high-efficiency speakers.

🎸 Use in Low-Wattage Guitar Amps
Widely used in low-powered Fender Tweed amps (such as the Champ, Princeton, pre-CBS Deluxe), this rectifier contributes a warm, compressed, organic sound, with natural sag and a musical edge that’s ideal for blues, jazz, and vintage rock . The sound “collapses” nicely under stress, lending character and musicality.

🎯 Note for audiophiles and technicians
A classic, transparent and unobtrusive voice tube that combines the historic RCA reliability with a coherent and artifice-free sound output. In the NOS version from 1958 , with square getter and black plates , it is an excellent choice for those looking for a silent, long-lasting and musically neutral rectifier for low-power audio systems.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE

Please understand that the writing on the glass of vintage valves has become very delicate over the years and comes off easily. You must handle them with extreme care to avoid this. Wear and damage to the writing on the valves reduces their market value and causes damage. Please exercise extreme caution.
