Description:

The 5Y3G / 5Z2P TUNG-SOL , in this rare NOS 1950s version with ST bottle structure, suspended filaments , ribbed black plates and disc getter (foil getter) , represents one of the most refined and stable rectifiers produced in the United States in the first half of the post-war period.

The presence of suspended filaments – a distinctive construction feature of TUNG-SOL – contributes to improved thermal management and a reduction in microphonic vibrations , making it a silent, durable and musically cohesive valve, perfect for sensitive hi-fi applications or restorations of historic audio systems.

Bass : Smooth and articulated. The low end is relaxed but readable , with a response free from harshness that helps the overall harmony of the system. Less incisive than a GZ34, but more controlled than some older 5Y3s.

Mids : natural and airy. The mid frequencies are fluid and sober , with an almost transparent rendering that does not color the signal but accompanies it with grace. The voices appear centered , intelligible and endowed with a particular ethereal presence .

Highs : smooth and unobtrusive. The high end of the spectrum is pleasantly rounded , without loss of information. Fine detail is returned with tact and discretion , allowing for prolonged listening without fatigue.

Dynamics : progressive and velvety. The dynamic response is sweet but coherent , with a feeling of continuous fluidity rather than immediate attack. Excellent in single-ended systems, where you are looking for musicality rather than incisiveness.

Soundstage : intimate but tidy. The soundstage is more compact than expansive , but offers depth and spatial coherence , with a well-defined separation of the planes. The positioning of the instruments is credible and natural , especially in acoustic or vocal contexts.
