5963 ( 12AU7 ) SYLVANIA Halo Getter Long Plates Tested Tube Made in USA '50s

Description:

This 5963 (12AU7 / ECC82) SYLVANIA , produced in the USA in the 1950s, represents one of the most refined and technically sound interpretations of the vintage American 12AU7.
The construction with long plates and halo getters is typical of high-quality Sylvania productions, appreciated for the balance between operational reliability, sonic transparency and linear behavior over time.

Tested and selected valve, with stable emission and low background noise, designed for hi-fi and professional audio applications where coherence, control and musicality without excesses are required.

  • Bass: Precise and well-controlled. The low range is dry, uncluttered, and free of artificial emphasis, favoring clarity and rhythmic articulation.
  • Mids: Open and natural. Voices and acoustic instruments are well-proportioned, with a clean, clear reproduction, typically Sylvania: less "warm" than RCA, but more neutral and transparent.
  • Highs: Clear and well-extended. The high end is airy and defined, without harshness, with elegant detail that doesn't tire the listener.
  • Dynamics: Balanced and smooth. The response is prompt but composed, ideal for line stages, drivers, and signal control sections.
  • Soundstage: A tidy and well-focused scene. Correct separation of sound planes and a stable image, with a realistic and coherent presentation.

🎧 Use in Hi-Fi Stereo Amplifiers

Ideal for:

  • preamplifiers and line stages
  • buffers and coupling circuits
  • Vintage and modern hi-fi amplifiers compatible with 12AU7 / 5963

Particularly suitable for non-critical or moderate gain positions , where operational stability, low overall noise and timbral coherence are required.

🎸 Use in Musical Instrument Amplifiers

Suitable for:

  • driver positions, phase inverter or V2 / V3
  • guitar and bass amplifiers
  • applications in studio and professional contexts

It offers reliable, controlled operation, with low noise and predictable response.
It is recommended to avoid using it in V1 or in very high gain stages , where specifically selected low-noise tubes are preferable.

🎯 Note for audiophiles and technicians

A well-built and well-tested 1950s Sylvania 5963 , designed for those looking for neutrality, control and reliability , with the classic American approach that is more linear and transparent than its “warmer” counterparts.
A rational and musical choice for hi-fi systems and professional applications.

Test Results:

Valve tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -8.5V
  • Average 100%: Gm = 2200 ; Ia = 10.5 mA
  • Test Result: VERY STRONG

Valve:

  • Section 1: Gm = 2200 ; Ia = 9.4 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 2100 ; Ia = 8.4 mA
Additional Tests Performed:
  • Microphonics: Microphonics and Noise: Very Low. Tested and approved for use in hi-fi, including phono stages and guitar amplifiers. Also suitable for V1.
  • Balance: The two sections show coherent and well-aligned values, making the valve also ideal as a phase inverter in hi-fi and instrumental applications.
  • Output Quality: Excellent – Very strong and stable output, no fluctuations.
  • Short circuits and GAS: Absent.

Conditions:

  • Condition: Vintage - Tested and working - Comes in our custom box for optimal protection.
  • Functionality: Fully functional.
  • Cosmetic condition: Good – Lettering partially eroded, but still legible. Valve body in good condition. See photos for details.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE

Please understand that the writing on the glass of vintage valves has become very delicate over the years and comes off easily. You must handle them with extreme care to avoid this. Wear and damage to the writing on the valves reduces their market value and causes damage. Please exercise extreme caution.
