12AX7 ( ECC83 ) TUNG-SOL Long Gray Plates Foil Dimpled Getter Matched Pair Tubes MADE IN USA '60

Description:

The 12AX7 Tung-Sol Long Gray Plates , with foil getter and long gray plates , produced in the United States in 1960 , is a highly appreciated tube for its balanced, dynamic tone and excellent openness in the high range . This matched pair represents an excellent example of the finest American production, capable of combining musicality and technical precision , with a low noise floor and very coherent behavior even at high gain stages.

Bass: Solidly anchored and defined, with good articulation and control. Never intrusive, but with just the right presence to support the entire sonic message.

Mids: Clean, clear, and slightly open. Vocals and solo instruments emerge naturally and without excessive coloration, offering a good balance between neutrality and musicality.

Highs: Airy and well-extended, with a touch of brightness that adds definition to the soundstage without ever becoming harsh. The high range is particularly pleasant on neutral or slightly warm systems.

Dynamics: Responsive and articulate, with a quick and smooth transient response. Listening is always engaging and realistic, even at low volumes.

Soundstage: Wide and coherent, with good depth and stable imaging. Instruments are well separated and placed, contributing to an orderly and precise soundstage.

The 12AX7 Tung-Sol Long Gray Plates is an excellent choice for those looking for a precise, transparent but never cold tube, ideal for both hi-fi applications such as line and phono stages , and for guitar amplifiers where definition, headroom and great sonic articulation are desired.

🎸 Use in Guitar and Bass Amplifiers

The 12AX7 Tung-Sol Long Gray Plates is a tube highly prized by musicians for its fast dynamic response , midrange definition , and high-end transparency . In guitar applications, it offers a clear, articulate, and musically balanced sound, making it ideal for those who want to maintain tonal accuracy even in overdriven situations.

🔊 Ideal for musicians looking for:

  • Bright but stable cleans, with quick attack and good separation between notes
  • Responsive and defined overdrive, without excessive compression or muddying
  • Touch-sensitive dynamics, great for those who use the guitar as an expressive instrument
  • Generous headroom, useful in contexts with articulated pedals or dynamic effects

Examples of amplifiers where it performs very well:
🎸 Fender Deluxe Reverb / Twin Reverb – Clear tone, with presence and articulation perfect for clean and blues crunch
🎸 Marshall Plexi / JCM800 – In the early preamp stages it offers definition and reduces excessive compression
🎸 Vox AC30 Top Boost – Maintains the typical Vox brightness without harshening the sound
🎸 Mesa/Boogie Mark Series – Increases clarity in clean and lead channels, especially in complex setups
🎸 Ampeg V4 / SVT – On bass amps ensures punch, precision and headroom even with active pickups

🎯 Note to rock, funk and blues guitarists:
This tube is ideal for those who want a punchy, open, and always controlled sound , even with distortion. It is less suitable for those looking for a "fat" and colored saturation: in that case, tubes like RCAs or Mullard Black Plates may be preferable for greater harmonic euphony.
