12AX7 / ECC83 Mazda Valve – Selected Pair – Same Codes I62 / IK12 – Short Gray Plates – Halo Getter – Made in England BVA

AMPLITREX Tested – VERY STRONG – Selected Vintage Pair – Same Codes – British Production

Description

Selected pair of 12AX7 / ECC83 Mazda Valve, Made in England BVA production, chosen for constructive consistency, identical production codes and overall very solid electrical characteristics.

The tubes feature Short Gray Plates, top Halo Getter and Mazda Valve / BVA marking. The codes impressed on the glass are I62 / IK12, present on both tubes, a positive element for productive, aesthetic and constructive consistency.

The code I62 identifies the ECC83 / 12AX7 family in the second constructive revision; the factory/date code starting with “I” is associated with Thorn-AEI / Ediswan, indicated in the Philips/Mullard lists as “Mullard supply”. For this reason, the pair is cautiously indicated as likely British production from the 1960s.

The internal construction is typical of British short plate ECC83s of the period, very close to the 1960s Mullard architecture, with a compact, solid and appreciated design in both hi-fi and musical applications.

Tested with the Amplitrex AT-1000 Tube Tester, the tubes achieved an overall VERY STRONG result. This is not a precision matched pair, but a Selected Vintage Pair chosen for identical construction, identical codes and electrical robustness.

Sonically, they offer a natural, balanced and pleasantly British sound, with orderly bass, present and musical mids, and sweet, well-integrated highs. The presentation is fluid, controlled and suitable for extended listening, with the typical charm of vintage English ECC83s.

Suitable for preamplifiers, line stages, compatible phono stages, driver stages, hi-fi circuits and instrument amplifiers compatible with 12AX7 / ECC83.

A Mazda Valve Made in England BVA pair truly selected by Vacuum Tubes Treasures, ideal for those seeking two vintage British ECC83s with identical codes, homogeneous construction and classic English sonic character.

Test Results:

Tube tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -2V
  • Average 100%: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.2 mA
  • Test Result: VERY STRONG

Tube #1:

  • Section 1: Gm = 1500 ; Ia = 1.0 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1800 ; Ia = 1.6 mA

Tube #2:

  • Section 1: Gm = 1300 ; Ia = 0.8 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.1 mA
Additional Tests Performed:
  • Microphonics: Low. Suitable for many hi-fi and musical applications, particularly in line stages, drivers, and non-excessively critical preamp positions.
  • Noise: Low and well-controlled. Silent operation in hi-fi and musical amplifiers in designated positions.
  • Balance: Sections are not perfectly matched. The tubes are suitable for use in non-critical hi-fi stages (input or driver) and in guitar amplifiers. Not recommended as a phase inverter or in applications requiring rigorous balance between sections.
  • Emission Quality: Excellent – Very strong and stable emission, without fluctuations.
  • Shorts and GAS: Absent.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE

Please understand that the writing on the glass of vintage valves has become very delicate over the years and comes off easily. You must handle them with extreme care to avoid this. Wear and damage to the writing on the valves reduces their market value and causes damage. Please exercise extreme caution.
