12AX7 ECC83 Baldwin by SYLVANIA – Tested Pair – Long Gray Plates Halo Getter Made in USA

Description:

This pair of 12AX7 (ECC83) Baldwin by SYLVANIA , made in the USA at the Emporium, Pennsylvania factory, is from selections made for Baldwin organs in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The construction with Long Gray Plates and Halo Getter is one of the most recognizable and appreciated among the vintage Sylvania ECC83s, known for its fluid musical rendering, natural dynamic behavior and a great feeling of “organic” in the sound.

The tubes have been individually tested in our laboratory with AMPLITREX AT-1000 and show GOOD / STRONG output , stable and reliable.
These are not a matched pair nor are they tubes selected for critical stages: they are offered as Tested Pair Tubes , designed for those looking for musicality, character and authentic sonic response , not laboratory symmetry.

Sound Features:

Low range: Balanced and natural, with a bass that's present but never intrusive. It offers a solid foundation that supports the sound without weighing it down.

Midrange: The heart of the Sylvania signature: lively, fluid, and musical, with an open delivery that enhances guitars, vocals, and acoustic instruments. The mid-highs are legible without becoming aggressive.

Highs: The air and sweetness typical of Sylvania long plates. The highs are open but rounded, pleasant even at high volumes.

Dynamics and Response: Prompt and natural response, with a musical behavior that follows the signal well. They don't seek artificial compression or hyper-control: what matters here is feel.

🎸 Use in Musical Instrument Amplifiers

Particularly suitable for:

  • non-critical positions (V2, V3, gain stages)
  • vintage and boutique American amplifiers
  • musical cleans, soft crunch, natural dynamics

They offer:

  • rich harmonics
  • good definition on attacks
  • predictable and musical behavior

Not recommended as a V1 in very high sensitivity amplifiers nor as a phase inverter .

Test Results:

Valve tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -2V
  • Average 100%: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.2 mA
  • Test Result: GOOD / STRONG

Valve 1:

  • Section 1: Gm = 1300 ; Ia = 0.7 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.0 mA

Valve 2:

  • Section 1: Gm = 1300 ; Ia = 0.7 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1400 ; Ia = 1.1 mA
Additional Tests Performed:
  • Microphonics: Standard. Tested and approved for use in guitar amplifiers. Not recommended for the V1 position in high-sensitivity guitar amplifiers.
  • Balance: The sections have a moderate misalignment; this tube is suitable for use in non-critical stages (input/driver) and in guitar amplifiers. Not recommended as a phase inverter or where perfect balance between the sections is required.
  • Output Quality: Smooth, fluctuation-free output suitable for any application.
  • Short circuits and GAS: Absent.

Conditions:

  • Condition: Vintage tubes - Tested and in perfect working order. Shipped in our custom box for optimal protection.
  • Functionality: Fully functional.
  • Cosmetic condition: Good – Lettering partially eroded, but still legible. Valve body in good condition. See photos for details.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE

Please understand that the writing on the glass of vintage valves has become very delicate over the years and comes off easily. You must handle them with extreme care to avoid this. Wear and damage to the writing on the valves reduces their market value and causes damage. Please exercise extreme caution.
