12AX7 / ECC83 Baldwin by SYLVANIA Gray Plates Halo Getter Made in USA 1959

AMPLITREX Tested - Low Noise & Microphonics - Balanced Sections - Vintage American Sylvania Production

General Description

This 12AX7 / ECC83 Baldwin by Sylvania, produced in the USA in 1959, represents one of the most appreciated American interpretations of the famous ECC83.

Tubes branded Baldwin were intended for high-end electronic organs of the era and were selected by manufacturers who demanded reliability, low noise, and long operating life. Behind the Baldwin brand, in this case, we find the renowned SYLVANIA Made in USA production, recognizable by its construction with Gray Plates and Halo Getter, a configuration particularly valued by enthusiasts for its tonal balance and natural musicality.

Sylvania Gray Plates from the late 1950s are known for their ability to combine detail, openness, and naturalness, offering an engaging yet never artificial reproduction.

This tube has been carefully tested using AMPLITREX AT-1000, yielding STRONG results.

Aesthetically, it is in excellent condition, with a well-preserved internal structure and clearly legible silkscreen printing.

Sonic Characteristics

Baldwin by Sylvania Gray Plates possess the typical high-quality American sonic character, distinguished by balance, musicality, and excellent intelligibility.

Bass

The bass is well-controlled and defined, with good presence and articulation. It provides solidity to the low range without weighing down the musical message.

Mids

The mid-range is probably the strong suit of this production. Vocals appear natural, rich in harmonics, and well-focused in the soundstage.

Highs

The highs are open and detailed but never aggressive. Environmental information and the finest nuances are reproduced with naturalness and fluidity.
