12AX7 / ECC83 NOS Baldwin by RAYTHEON Long Black plates Halo Getter Tested Tube Made in USA

AMPLITREX Tested – VERY STRONG – Balanced – Vintage American Raytheon Production

Test Results:

Tube tested on AMPLITREX AT-1000 Tube Tester:

  • Test Conditions: Va = 250V ; Vg = -2V
  • Average 100%: Gm = 1600 ; Ia = 1.2 mA
  • Test Result: VERY STRONG

Tube :

  • Section 1: Gm = 1700 ; Ia = 1.1 mA
  • Section 2: Gm = 1700 ; Ia = 1.1 mA
Additional tests performed:
  • Burn-in / Stability Test: 48h – OK
  • Microphonics: Standard. Tested and compliant for use in hi-fi equipment and guitar amplifiers. Recommended for V2, V3, and V4 positions, as a driver, or in less critical stages. For V1 and high-gain positions particularly sensitive to microphonics, we recommend a low-microphonic selected tube.
  • Balance: Excellent - The sections are consistent and well-matched, making the tube also suitable for use as a phase inverter in hi-fi and musical instrument applications.
  • Emission Quality: Excellent – Very strong and stable emission, without fluctuations.
  • Shorts and GAS: None.

Description

This 12AX7 / ECC83 NOS Baldwin-branded tube is an original Raytheon production, manufactured in the United States during the 29th week of 1961, as confirmed by the RMA/EIA code P280 61-29C. Originally intended for Baldwin equipment, it features the sought-after Raytheon construction with long black plates and halo getter, typical characteristics of high-quality American production from that era.

Professionally tested with an Amplitrex AT-1000, it provided results significantly higher than the average reference values: both sections measure Gm 1700 and Ia 1.1 mA, highlighting a very strong, stable, and perfectly uniform emission. The 48-hour burn-in was passed successfully, with no fluctuations, shorts, or gas present.

The balance is excellent, with identical values between the two triodes. This feature makes the tube particularly suitable as a phase inverter, as well as in driver stages and hi-fi or musical instrument applications that require symmetrical and predictable performance.

This unit has standard microphonics: it is fully suitable for hi-fi and guitar amplifiers in positions V2, V3, and V4, as a driver, or in less critical stages. For V1 and high-gain inputs particularly sensitive to microphonics, a specifically selected low-microphonic tube is preferred.

From a sound perspective, this Raytheon production is appreciated for its dynamic, natural, and well-defined output, accompanied by good tonal consistency and a balanced response. A noteworthy NOS specimen capable of combining vintage American construction, very strong emission, and perfect electrical matching between sections.
